Explore Northern Arizona’s Art & Culture

Northern Arizona is more than just hiking trails and the Grand Canyon. From Flagstaff to Sedona to smaller towns dotting historic Route 66, the area’s rich culture can be found in its museums, galleries, and art festivals. Inspired by our lush pine forests and unique desert vistas, numerous artists – including famed surrealist painter Max Ernst – have called Northern Arizona home.

Mormon Lake Lodge is an ideal touchpoint to experience the culture and art of Northern Arizona. Everything is within easy reach here, from Flagstaff’s numerous hikes and festivals to the quirky galleries and boutiques of Sedona. Enjoy a quiet morning fishing on the lake, then travel into the city for a play, art show, or museum.

To help you get started, we’ve compiled a “hit-list” of upcoming fine art events in Sedona and Flagstaff.

First Friday

Dubbed a “New-West enclave of art galleries,” Sedona’s Gallery Association hosts an open house event from 5-8 p.m. every first Friday of the month. Look for modern, traditional and Southwest artwork on the self-guided driving tour, plus complimentary refreshments. Free admission.

August 26-27, Flagstaff’s fine artists will open their doors for free studio tours and workshops. In celebration of the event’s 20th anniversary, Brandy’s Restaurant and the High Country Conference Center will also be spotlighting local artwork throughout the months of August and September.

Sedona Arts Center

View the works of more than 100 local artists in one place at Sedona Arts Center. The facility is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., showcasing a variety of watercolors, pen-and-ink, mixed media pieces, sculpture, and more, with classes and rotating special exhibits offered in the facility’s “Art Barn.”
